Why “all”? Well, first, all things are connected & we are all a sum of our parts. Don’t believe me? Just look at the human body. What you eat directly affects how you feel. Caffeine is a perfect example of this. A lot of people can’t function without a dose of caffeine in the morning. You feeling awake (mentally) is directly connected to having caffeine in your stomach and, a few minutes later, running through your bloodstream.
Second, I firmly believe all people are capable (more on that belief later) of having an awesome life and I genuinely wish that for everyone. However, I don’t believe that all people are willing to make the changes necessary to make that awesome life happen (at least not without hitting bottom first).
BUT, I don’t believe that All necessarily means all-inclusive. There are some seriously toxic people in the world who will drag you down into their mess and expect you to wallow in it. I am happy to work with the willing, but it’s your life and you have to own it. Allowing people to wallow makes them a victim and forces you to attend their pity party (which seriously puts a drag on that whole awesome life we’re going for here). This should not be interpreted as me saying you shouldn’t spend time with people who are in crappy situations…. BUT if those people with crappy situations are doing absolutely nothing to make their life better and the only thing they want from you is sympathy or even possibly for you to carry them & their problems, that is an unhealthy relationship and you really should consider how what you’re doing is simply enabling them to sink deeper into their mess. Sometimes people need tough love but it should be well-considered tough love not just blanket “I’m delivering you tough love with a howitzer” (not cool people, not cool).
Oh, and in case you were wondering: Yes, I considered WholeSUM…because a “whole is a sum of it’s parts” but that kinda leaves the impression that everything I write will be “wholesome.” As you’ve already seen, I do cuss on occasion (which would totally offend my family) so “all” it is. Plus, do you want an “Awesome” life or a “Wholesome” life?
Wishing you an All+SUM LIFE,
– SUM Sarah
